Here's an old thread (2007) that says it can be done with WINE:

Probably best to get on the WINE or Crossover site and look at their list of 
applications.

VMWare or VirtualBox should work fine because it is actually running Windows. 
They may need to play with the audio or video settings to get it to look and 
sound right, but it shouldn't be difficult.

MIDI input/output might be an issue especially if they are using the game port, 
but probably best just to give it a try and see what happens then troubleshoot 
any issues if they come up.
