One of the suggestions from that site http://tuxradar.com/content/spice-your-lug
was to get a sponsor like O'Reilly. I went to the O'Reilly site and applied
for their User Group and Professional Association Program. I got a form e-mail
back (I'll send it separately) thanking me for applying, and never heard
anything more. I just figured there was a backlog or we didn't qualify or whatever.
Well today a box arrived via UPS. I had been expecting some computer parts for a
customer, but when I opened it I saw:
http://www.pqlug.org/tiki-browse_image.php?imageId=1 If you can't get to the
picture, it was four books - "Linux in a Nutshell", "R in a Nutshell", "The Book
of Xen", and "Using Joomla". Cover price total CA$245.92
There was a packing slip and an invoice for $0
http://www.pqlug.org/tiki-browse_image.php?imageId=2 but no other info on what
we are to do with the books. The invoice is marked as 'SAMPLE'.
So, what do we do with them? Keep for a PQLUG library (O'Reilly asks that we
"Encourage your members to review our books and post the reviews on
Amazon, your site, newsletter, or mailing list")? Sell them to the highest
bidder and use the money to offset costs? Use as a door prize at a public event
(installfest or whatever)? Or???
O'Reilly also asks, but it is not required, that we put a "This User Group is
sponsored by O'Reilly" link on our web site. See: http://ug.oreilly.com/banners/
Anyone have any objections?
Alfred
