You guys were quite correct.
After playing with Evolution for quite a long time, with Bogofilter and 
Spamassassin supposedly guarding me, and still getting lots of 
opportunities to buy Viagra (both male and female) I had enough!
So I had to do a fresh install of Thunderbird after deleting my 
.thunderbird file, and following the steps I found on Google to install 
using pop3. I'm on Telus, and although it's identified as a server that 
can utilize imap, I couldn't figure a way of automatically dumping 
messages off the server in imap format, so, in a nutshell, I'm back to 
normal. I lost most of my messages (that's okay) and thankfully I  back 
up my addies, so that's okay too.
